James de Molyneux & Purvis Young

The Lyndon House Arts Center is pleased to present James de Molyneux & Purvis Young opening on Thursday, September 5, 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  A special event will be held on Saturday, September 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.  This exhibition is on view through October 12, 2019.

As a collector, writer and painter, James de Molyneux is exploring the past. When de Molyneux and his partner relocated to Georgia to renovate the Smithonia Plantation, they brought with them a massive art collection, including works by visionary artist Purvis Young.  Over decades of collecting, de Molyneux developed a refined eye for art. Relatively recently, he has focused on his own exploration of painting, creating artistic interpretations of historical and personal past life events.

A special artist talk event will be held at Smithonia Plantation on Saturday September 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm. *Please note there is currently a wait list for this event.

Smithonia Plantation was originally built in 1863 by a slave owner and early user of convict labor. The home is eccentric and includes many architectural elements of interest such as an indoor water well. James de Molyneux will guide us through the works in his collection, the unique home and the stories of his life and artistic pursuits.
