Journey into the mystical and magical world of ancient West African mythology and meet the Orishas! These colorful and unique characters are all connected with nature and specific aspects of our daily human existence. Through this exhibition, you will be introduced to a few of the most popular and well-known Orishas as they come to life through vivid illustrations and symbolism conceived by Havana, Cuba born artist Victor Mora. These deities are found in several belief systems practiced around the planet including Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas.
About The Artist:
Victor Francisco Hernandez Mora was born in Havana, Cuba where he is a painter, illustrator, graphic artist, sculptor, fabric designer and a muralist. He is a devout and initiated practitioner of Santeria. Victor has displayed his work in more than 20 personal exhibitions both inside and outside of Cuba. Victor Mora has illustrated 7 books/projects, including being distinguished as the only Cuban artist to illustrate a version of the Holy Bible that was published in Mexico. The art of Victor Mora is colorful and whimsical with playful and fantastical elements. He’s known for his use of bright colors, intricate details, and a childlike sense of wonder.

About The Curator:
Christopher Swain is the Public Art Program Coordinator for the city of East Point, GA and is a member of Americans for the Arts. Due to his dedication, leadership, and advocacy for the arts, the City of East Point has expanded its artistic landscape resulting in a higher quality of life for the residents. Personally, Chris is an avid collector of Tribal African Art and artifacts from various cultures. He is passionate about Africa and her countless contributions to the world and has spent the last 25+ years visiting countries such as Egypt, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Niger, Rwanda, Togo, Senegal, Nigeria, Morocco, Benin, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Jamaica, Brazil, and Cuba attending numerous cultural arts festivals, cultural celebrations, and spiritual ceremonies.
