2024 We Are All Kinda Floating: Jamele Wright Sr.

R. Lukasiewicz Gallery

October 26, 2024 – December 28, 2024

Atlanta-based artist Jamele Wright Sr. creates monumental textiles that center the traditions of the Black American vernacular experience and merge sculpture, painting, fiber and techniques from applied graffiti and quilting. Wright’s immersive installation of hanging hand-dyed fabrics creates a dynamic dialogue between the architecture of the space and the viewer as they move through the installation, activating it. Wright’s exhibition beckons the visitor to contemplate lines through history - family, tradition, and culture - that connect us all.

Born and raised in Ohio, at the age of 22 Jamele Wright, Sr. moved with his family to Atlanta, GA. While raising a family, he produced art, jazz, and poetry events throughout Atlanta. Wright graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in Art History with a concentration in African and African American Contemporary Art and earned a Masters of Fine Art from School of Visual Arts in New York, NY. He completed a fellowship at Project for Empty Spaces in Newark, NJ and has been a visiting artist at the Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, SC and the Zuckerman Museum of Art in Kennesaw, GA.
