Exhibition
On View August 25 – October 13, 2018
Opening Reception, September 13, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
The Lyndon House Arts Center is pleased to host the guest curated exhibition entitled Picturing the Black Fantastic.  Guest curator Drék Davis, Professor of Art at Grambling State University in Louisiana, selected works by 9 artists for this exhibition.

“It has been incumbent upon Americans of African descent to see themselves for themselves in order to counteract the stereotypical imagery rooted in the furtherance of bigoted agendas. From Henry Ossawa Tanner’s brush, to Gordon Parks’ lens, Sun Ra’s Arkestra, and Elizabeth Catlett’s forms, artists have fashioned a new Blackness that was both rooted in the reality of representational imagery and apart at the same time. Both magical and fantastic, ancestral and futuristic.” - Drék Davis

On view will be drawings, paintings, sculpture and installations by  Melody Croft, Shanequa Gay, Donte Hayes, Jeremy Hughes, Lester Merriweather, Jessica Scott-Felder, Vitus Shell, Dante Yarbrough and Wima.
