Guest lecture by David Vaughan
Thursday, August 10, 6:30 -8:30 pm.
In celebration of the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation’s 50th year, the Lyndon House Arts Center is happy to present a collection from Growing Up in Athens of photographs
of our town taken over decades . “Captured in Time” will be displayed in to two parts:
Downtown Athens through the Years, on view from August 8 – September 9 and Unidentified Houses of Athens, July 15 – November 1. All will enjoy these historic pictures of our neighborhoods and out downtown.
Growing Up in Athens, GA, a Facebook group, is administered by Roy Moseman, Johnny Kesler and Jerry Crawley. The site began as a way for old friends to share photos and memories of Athens. It has grown to house thousands of images with more than 18,000 likes and more than 17,000 followers. The photos come from various sources, but most are contributed by the general public.
A special program entitled “Preserving Your Family Photographs," will take place on Thursday, August 10th, 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
Photographs bring the stories of our past alive. Most people have a collection of photographs that they have accumulated over the years—pictures of friends and family, vacations and memorable events. Mr. David Vaughan, Vaughan Estate Sales and Appraisals in Atlanta, will review the various historic image types and provide information on the best way to handle, store and identify your treasured family photographs. Mr. Vaughan has amassed one of the most significant Civil War image collections, and his photographs have appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times, The Georgia Historical Quarterly and others.
The presentation is sponsored by the Athens-Clarke Heritage Foundation as part of its 50th Anniversary lecture series.
