fast tracks, ski masks, plaid slacks: Tim Root

Lobby Case

November 22, 2024 - February 8, 2025

Reception: Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm

Tim Root's playful wooden constructions draw from a comic book aesthetic, featuring humorous yet grotesque characters that are brought to life in bold colors and graphic black outlines. Embracing a DIY ethos, these simple works are made from scrap wood and bits of wire. Intentionally crude, they belie their own sophistication of wit and richness of content. Root creates a world that is equal parts fun house and children's toy box, injecting an adult's perspective into the playground of imagination.

A self-taught artist, Root stays up late after working his full-time job, listening to records, drawing, painting, and making wooden constructions. He enjoys exploring towns across the southeast on his vintage bicycle, walking the railroad tracks, and scavenging for broken, beautiful, rusty objects to bring back to his garbage garden.

All exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public.  Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.   Children must be accompanied by an adult.
