The Lyndon House Arts Center welcomes the community for an exhibition and Sunday Celebration honoring the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. The “Visions of MLK Art Exhibition” will feature works by collaborative artist teams who combine poetic words and visual works to interpret and communicate powerful ideas and emotions. The exhibition, curated by Montu Miller, is entering its 9th year as a supporting event associated with the public initiative, “Make It A Day On, Not A Day Off Day of Service”.
This year’s exhibition theme, “Plant Positive Seeds,” focuses on building bridges between local communities through collaboration. Imagining we are all gardeners in an Athens community garden in charge of planting a seed to grow something special. Plant a positive thought in a child, plant a tutoring lesson with a student or help plant some vegetables for a family to eat.
The Sunday Celebration is an afternoon of poetry, song, dance, spoken word and art. Enjoy the variety show, meet the artists, see the exhibition and take part in hands-on art activities for the whole family. Make It A Day On, Not A Day Off committee members will also be signing up last minute volunteers to do service work to help with a wide range of community projects the next day on Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Holiday.
The “Visions of MLK Art Exhibition” will be on display January 15- January 22, 2016.
The Sunday Community Celebration will be January 17, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm.
