Animal Adoption
Animals can be adopted from the Animal Services Adoption Center. An application, a fee, a landlord letter of approval (if applicable), and a waiting period are required.

Several times during the year, the Mayor and Commission of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County (ACCGov) seeks candidates for volunteer, unpaid, major policy boards. Citizen volunteers provide an additional perspective for staff and elected officials.

Athensmade
Athensmade’s purpose is to help drive local economic growth and diversity by developing the brand of the community through programs that build and support local businesses, assist entrepreneurs, and foster connections between local educators and our business community. They also aim to engage the entire community in the development of a succinct and well‐known spirit of pride around doing business in Athens.

Athens Wellbeing Project
The mission of the Athens Wellbeing Project is to integrate the planning efforts and improve the outcomes achieved by local institutions, organizations, and community stakeholders through collecting and sharing open-access, neighborhood-level data that is representative of Athens-Clarke County's population.

Bike/Pedestrian Master Plan
On October 2, 2018, the Mayor and Commission approved the Athens in Motion bike/pedestrian master plan. The Athens In Motion Plan identifies a clear strategy for near and long-term projects that will result in a safe, connected, and equitable bike and pedestrian network for Athens-Clarke County.

Envision Athens
Envision Athens is a community-wide effort to develop a common vision for the future of the Athens-Clarke County community. This process will result in a visionary, yet achievable multi-dimensional strategy to guide community and economic development for the next 20 years. In doing so, a shared sense of accountability and commitment to implementation will be achieved –this will not be “just another plan.” Envision Athens will be open and inclusive, intuitive and informed, and carefully-designed and facilitated.

Southern Network for Economic Mobility
The two year Southern Network for Economic Mobility program calls for the creation of an eight member team of community leaders in business, government, education, nonprofits, and philanthropy. This team is to examine how well existing systems are reaching those young people facing the most difficult barriers to advancement; analyze the policies, systems, and culture that impede their progression; and adapt or build the pathways that connect institutions and social supports, from school to rewarding employment.

What Works Cities Partnership
The Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County has been selected as one of 95 cities partnering with Bloomberg Philanthropies' national What Works Cities initiative, one of the largest-ever philanthropic efforts to enhance the use of data and evidence in the public sector. Athens-Clarke County will receive expert technical assistance in its partnership with the Center for Government Excellence at John Hopkins University and Results for America, two of five organizations within the What Works Cities consortium.

Mayor & Commission Information
The Commission is the governing authority of Athens-Clarke County and consists of 10 members, each representing a geographical district. Among powers conferred by the Charter, the Commission has the power to set tax rates, adopt a budget, and establish policy through the adoption of ordinances and resolutions.

MACORTS Information & Public Comment Opportunity
Madison Athens-Clarke Oconee Regional Transportation Study (MACORTS), the cooperative transportation planning body for the urbanized area which includes Athens-Clarke County, portions of southern Madison County and northern Oconee County, has scheduled a public informational meeting to provide opportunity for the public to review and comment upon a proposed amendment to the FY 2018 - 2021 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and the FY 2022 - 2023 Second Tier of Projects. This document outlines planned transportation improvements for the long and short term. This notice of public involvement activities and time established for public review and comment on the TIP will satisfy the Program of Projects (POP) requirements of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5307 Program.
