Tallassee Road Bridge 3

Project Name: Tallassee Road Bridge Replacement

Description:  This project is located on CR 476 (Tallassee Road), approximately 3.6 miles west of downtown Athens. The proposed project will replace the bridge over CSX Railroad, located 500 feet west of the intersection with Tallassee Road and Westchester Drive. The new bridge will consist of two 12’ travel lanes (one in each direction) with 5’ sidewalk and 10’ multi-use trail; and approximately 250’ long across CSX Railroad.

Project Goals and Objectives: Replace the structurally deficient bridge over CSX while adding pedestrian facilities along Tallassee Road to improve safety.

Project Schedule: E.R. Snell began work in April 2022. The existing bridge will remain open throughout construction of the new bridge.

Project Update April 2023: The contractor poured the parapet walls, multi-use trail and sidewalk across the new bridge in March. They laid all of the storm drain from Tallassee Rd. to Westchester Dr. and began grading the road.

Funding: The project budget is set at $6,114,060 and will be funded through TSPLOST, SPLOST and General Fund
