Project Summary

The Public Water System/Fire Prevention System Project was the third phase of a program to install water lines, fire hydrants and related infrastructure along existing roadways throughout Athens-Clarke County to serve existing properties not currently served by the ACC public water system, particularly in areas of need such as northern, rural Clarke county and urban areas with gaps. The purpose of the project was to provide for potable water needs and improved fire protection within Athens-Clarke County. The work was designated in categories related to priority for health conditions, public safety, locations with no service, and overall infrastructure improvements.

• Group C, Phase 1 was complete in 2013. A total of 31,109 feet of waterline was completed. This completed Category 2 (Public roadways with parcels having structures that do not have frontage on a public water system).
• Group C, Phase 2 was complete in 2015. A total of 25,077 feet of waterline was completed. This completed Category 3 (Subdivisions with community wells).
• Group C, Phase 3 was completed on October 27, 2017. A total of 27,763 feet of waterline was completed. (Loops for redundancy)
• Sub-Total for Group C - 83,949 linear feet of water main was installed
• Under Group C, Phase 3, design included 73 projects. The funds were exhausted after 37 projects were completed.

Sub-Total for Groups A1, A2, B - 80,024 linear feet of water main was installed. A total of 163,973 linear feet of water main was installed under 2005 SPLOST Waterline Project

The Athens-Clarke County SPLOST office provided multiple contractors and multiple phases of work.
