Project 26: Library Additions and Renovations

Project Summary

The ACC Library Additions and Renovations Project included the renovation of the approximately 63,000 square feet of existing Library and the addition of approximately 19,000 square feet, both spread across two floors. This additional square footage is on the east and north side of the existing building thereby facilitating increased area for essentially all of the library service components located on both the first and second floors. This includes the Children Services, Audio/Visual, Young Adult, Computers, Circulation Services, Reference Services, and both Fiction and Non-Fiction collection areas. The expansion increased the area of the Heritage Room and provided a significant increase in public meeting rooms and areas. Renovation of the existing facility adjusted the space dedicated to the various functions, but also provided the opportunity to expand computer technologies, such as wireless networking, into all areas of the Library. The Project also included a new entrance to improve accessibility from all parking areas and improvements to the library site including landscaping and site work of the storm drainage detention basin.

The project funding includes a $2 Million State Grant as well as the SPLOST 2005 allocated funds. The Project funding also provides for the on-going purchase of library resources (i.e. book collections and audio-visual equipment) to meet annual library requirements.
