Bus Stop Improvement Program
- Created in 2000 after SPLOST referendum approved by voters in the county during the same year. SPLOST funding was subsequently re-approved in 2005, 2011, and 2018.
- Pre-2018 Improvements: 403 various bus stop improvements were completed prior to 2018 including: 68 improved landing pads, 223 benches, and 110 bus shelters, with 11 of those being Art Shelters.
- 2018–Today: 412 various bus stop improvements which include 23 improved landing pads, 194 benches, and 195 bus shelters, with 43 of those being Art Shelters.
- In Process: Improved wayfinding that includes 500 informational, site-specific static signs which assist with transit navigation, electronic signage, including solar-powered e-ink signs, that provide real-time information on buses, and at select locations throughout Clarke-County.
Expanding Fare-Free Categories
Athens-Clarke County Transit aspires to provide convenient, affordable transit service to all. As a part of this mission, we are expanding our fare-free categories as budget allows. Fare-Free categories were expanded in 2019 to include:
- Youth 18 and Under
- Senior Citizens 65 and Older
- Those with disabilities
- ACC Government Employees
Approved Fare-Free Beginning January, 2021
- Nights and weekends for all
Recently Completed Projects
- 10 million dollar, Multimodal Transportation Center, on East Broad Street, adjacent to the rail corridor and the Classic Center parking deck
- Phase III of bus stop improvement program.
- Phasing-out of diesel buses with hybrid electric buses.
