Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvement Projects
Projects in this category include the construction of sidewalks to fill in existing gaps, adding new bike lane designation, adding crosswalks, and other improvements to increase the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists on ACC roadways.
The Athens in Motion Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan developed in August 2018 serves as a guiding document for planning and implementation of future projects.

Sycamore Drive Pedestrian Improvements (TSPLOST 2023 Project 15)
The goal of TSPLOST 2023 Project 15 – Sycamore Drive Pedestrian Improvements is to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity to Atlanta Highway.

Vincent Drive Sidewalk Project (SPLOST 2020 Project 31)
This project will provide funding for constructing a sidewalk and all related improvements on the approximate 1.4 mile section of Vincent Drive between Jefferson River Road and Newton Bridge Road.

College Square Plaza Redevelopment Plan (TSPLOST 2023 Project 28)
On November 6, 2024, the Mayor and Commission approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the Athens Downtown Development Authority (ADDA) for the process of redeveloping the College Square Plaza with long term changes.

Lexington Road Sidewalk Extension Project (TSPLOST 2018 Project 14)
This sidewalk extension sub-project, on Lexington Highway, is part of TSPLOST 2018 Project 14 – Lexington Hwy Corridor Improvements. As part of this sub-project new sidewalks will be constructed, to fill-in the gaps between sidewalks, from Johnson Drive to Gaines School Road along the southern side of Lexington Highway.

Georgia Safe Sidewalks
This project will identify and remove trip hazards on sidewalks. ACC has contracted with Georgia Safe Sidewalks (GASS) to begin the process of identifying and removing vertical displacements, potential trip & fall hazards from concrete walkways. The company utilizes a proprietary and patented process to horizontally cut away high concrete that can cause falls from pedestrians "tripping" on walkways
