About the Neighborhood Leaders Program

The Neighborhood Leaders Program – implemented by Family Connection-Communities in Schools (FC-CIS) – consists of 16 individuals of the community, in the community, working with the community to provide ongoing support for the Mayor & Commission (M&C)’s initiative to reduce poverty, social disparity, and wealth inequality in Athens-Clarke County. Neighborhood Leaders provide information, referral, navigation, case management, and community engagement for residents across 16 “zones” within ACC. They also help inform the M&C and community partners about systemic barriers to prosperity.

About ACCGov Funding for the Neighborhood Leaders Program

The M&C have approved funding for the Neighborhood Leaders Program since FY20, and have the opportunity to revisit and revise the annual contract budget as part of their Annual Operating and Capital Budget process. On September 5, 2023, the M&C approved a revised scope of work and annual funding level of $1,102,661 in ACCGov General Funds for FY24. On June 5, 2024, M&C approved the budget for FY25 Annual Operating and Capital Budget which included the same budget allocation as in FY24. On September 3, 2024, M&C denied a request from FC-CIS to increase its annual budget allocation, and kept the same funding level approved on June 5, 2024 ($1,102,661).
