2026 Martin Luther King Jr. DAY Holiday Schedule
The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department will suspend compost, garbage, recycling, and leaf & limb collections on Monday, January 19th, 2026, in recognition of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday.
If you have residential service & commercial service with us outside of the downtown district your pick-up schedule will be as follows: Monday will be collected on Tuesday. Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday. Wednesday will be collected on Thursday. Thursday will be collected on Friday. We will resume our normal pickup schedule on Monday, January 26th, 2026. Please make sure your trash and recycling roll-carts are out on the curb by 7:00 AM on your pick-up day.
- If you have commercial or residential service with us and are located within the Downtown District your pick-up will be on regular schedule.

Annually, the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department may alter collection service for the following holidays:
New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Earth Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous People's Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, & Christmas.
