2013 Awards

Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful Named Keep America Beautiful Affiliate of the Year.

Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful (KACCB) was chosen as the First Place Affiliate of the year for 2012-13 in the 50,001 to 200,001 population category. As a local affiliate of the Keep Georgia Beautiful program and the Keep America Beautiful (KAB) program, KACCB positively affects the community by bringing state and national programs to Athens and engaging citizens in volunteer service.

On an annual basis, KACCB administers seven litter prevention programs, eight recycling programs/events, and seven community beautification programs. It also participates in KAB America Recycles Day, the Great American Clean-up, National Planting Day, and the Cigarette Litter Prevention Program.

Last year, KACCB completed 29 workshops and held 23 outreach events with 8,763 community members attending. More importantly, it brought 23,763 volunteers into action for the community. The program also has a history of leadership in environmental education through the Athens-Clarke County Green Schools Program and delivers outreach education efforts to 5,800 students in 29 schools and daycare centers.

KACCB – formerly the Clean and Beautiful Commission – was created in 1988 and certified as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful (KAB) in 1989. Though the program changed its name in 1998 and became affiliated with the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government's Solid Waste Department in 1999, KACCB has pursued KAB’s goals since its inception.

Keep America Beautiful is the nation’s leading nonprofit that brings people together to build and sustain vibrant communities. With a network of more than 1,200 affiliate and participating organizations including state recycling organizations, KAB works with millions of volunteers to take action in their communities through programs that deliver sustainable impact.
