2004 National Award

2004 National Award Recipient

Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful (KACCB) was recognized for encouraging the local government, businesses, and private citizens to work together to make our community a more beautiful, safer place to live.

KACCB received a second place national Award for Beautification and Community Improvement at the 2004 Keep America Beautiful National Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on December 3, 2004. The awards were presented in recognition of outstanding programs that beautify and improve communities around the country. The National Award recognized KACCB for its part in helping to organize the 2004 Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event at the Athens Area Council on Aging.

Recognition

Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful was chosen for this award, in part, for its ability to create a collaborative force among a diversity of organizations and highlight an area of the community in need. Executive Director Stacee Farrell and Board Treasurer Sham Gad attended the National Award Ceremony on behalf of KACCB and the entire Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Committee. “The Athens-Clarke County Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service event was a powerful display of how a small group of dedicated citizens can truly make a difference,” said Farrell. In further recognition of the event’s success, Farrell was also invited to discuss the project organization and implementation at the National Keep America Beautiful Conference moderated by National Public Radio political correspondent Linda Wertheimer.

KACCB also received a Presidential Scholar Award in recognition of its continued best practices among Keep America Beautiful affiliates.
