Short-Term Rental Information

Overview 

  • Short-term rentals are defined as an accommodation for transient guests where, in exchange for compensation of any type or amount, a residential dwelling unit is rented or otherwise provided for lodging for any period of time less than 31 consecutive days. Such accommodations are usually, but not exclusively, advertised through websites such as Airbnb.com, Booking.com, Hometogo.com, and vrbo.com.

Process for Demonstrating Compliance with ACCGov Ordinance Requirements

Home Occupation STRs:

  • The applicant shall be the owner-occupant of the property or a long-term tenant of the property owner, and 
  • Only one structure on the subject parcel may be permitted for use as an STR.

Commercial STRs:

  • Please review the STR Ordinance containing ACC's Permitted Use chart to confirm which zones Commercial STRs are a permitted use in.

  • Home Occupation permits for STRs are reviewed and issued by Planning Department staff in conjunction with ACC FIre Marshal's Office. Contact the Planning Department at 706-613-3515 with any questions. 

Commercial STR instructions 

  • Applications for Commercial STRs are reviewed as a Construction Plans Review submittal in order to coordinate the review and permitting by the appropriate ACCGov departments. Contact the Planning Department at 706-613-3515 with any questions.
  • Commercial STR are a permitted use within certain zones with a Special-Use Permit approval required prior to a Plans Review Submittal. Please contact Planning staff for more information on our Special-Use Request process.
