Teens are an essential part of our community and the Leisure Services Department is investing into our future. See our current teen priorities:

Paid Counselor in Training Positions

How do you get on-the-job experience when every job requires experience?  By becoming a Counselor in Training! Counselors in Training assist full-time counselors with summer camp and get real-life experience to build their resumés and skills for future opportunities. Applicants follow the same application, interview, and training processes as our traditional seasonal staff.

Renovated Technology Spaces

Teens LOVE technology, and as an essential part of life, the Leisure Services Department is creating spaces to allow for this development.  The computer labs at East Athens Community Center, Lay Park, and Rocksprings Park are all undergoing a much-needed glow up - complete with a fresh design, upgraded equipment and infrastructure, and opportunities to grow skills like coding, video production, and podcasting.

Teen Programming

Beyond the Barre

Beyond the Barre is a program based out of the East Athens Educational Dance Center and partnering with Chess and Community, that empowers and inspires young men and women to develop essential skills on and off the dance floor.  Training includes financial literacy, interview skills, professional headshots, and networking opportunities. Some highlights include a healing drum circle and spoken word workshop.

Go Beyond

Thanks to a generous donation from Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C., the "Go Beyond" program will launch in fall 2021!  24 local teens will have the chance to explore new ideas, gain skills, and experience field trips across the state - and build relationships with their peers and staff at Lay Park, East Athens Community Center, and Rocksprings Park.

Grand Slam

Back by popular demand, Grand Slam is back! This summer program, exclusively for Athens-Clarke County teens between the ages of 11-14, occurring on Friday nights at Lay Park from 7-10 p.m. The name of the game is fun - and we bring it - with dance parties, sports, giveaways, video games, and guest speakers!
