APPROVED: ACC Leisure Services Department's Office of Park Planning is updating the Bishop Park Master Plan. Since the former City of Athens first planned and developed the park in the 1970’s, the park has grown considerably. Additional structures and parking have been constructed, the original infrastructure is still in place and needs to be updated. At 40 years old, the park's master plan needs to be updated.
IN PROGRESS: In 2012, Athens-Clarke County acquired a 310 acre greenspace on Tallassee Road, near Burney-Harris Lyons Middle School. The property features dramatic floodplains along the Middle Oconee River with a bottom-land forest and stands of native river cane, mature upland forests with American holly, a wetland, and a rocky creek. Master Planning is underway to establish a park on this property.
APPROVED: The proposal made a small adjustment to the undeveloped areas of the park, changing the location of future park amenities in order to provide space for a pump track. The new location allows a direct connection to the existing mountain bike trail system, and places the pump track, basketball courts, and a pavilion and restroom in the same area.
