Mission

The purpose of the Traffic Engineering Division is to plan, design, construct, and maintain all traffic control devices (signs, signals, school flashers, roadway markings); and to provide cost-effective solutions to remedy traffic safety and operational concerns for Athens-Clarke County citizens.

  • Collects traffic and pedestrian data 
  • Conducts sight distance studies 
  • Conducts studies on specific locations experiencing high number of crashes
• Intelligent Transportation Systems/Locates
  • Maintains fiber optic cable for traffic signal communications
  • Completes all Georgia 811 Utility Locates associated with underground signals
