Now Operating in Athens: The Clean Air Campaign

The Clean Air Campaign, a not-for-profit organization that motivates Georgians to take action to improve air quality and reduce traffic, is now serving Athens employers, commuters, and schools. Air quality issues have begun to impact Athens-Clarke County. That's why The Clean Air Campaign is now working with the classic city and surrounding areas, providing resources to help us all breathe easier.

New pollution standards put more Georgia cities at risk of non-attainment. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified 28 counties in Georgia as non-attainment areas for ground-level ozone and/or particle pollution. Presently, the air over Clarke County is considered by the EPA to meet the standards for attainment, but the area is at risk in the near future of falling into non-attainment status, due to increasing pollution from stationary and mobile sources.

The Clean Air Campaign is Ready to Help 

The Clean Air Campaign is now working with government agencies, employers, schools, and residents in Athens and around Clarke County to help the area take a proactive stance by:

• Motivating commuters to use alternatives to driving alone to work, such as riding Athens Transit, carpooling, teleworking, vanpooling, biking and walking
• Partnering with Athens-Clarke County greater area employers to develop customized programs that motivate and make it easier for their employees to use commuting alternatives
• Working with schools to educate and involve our next generation of citizens to participate in solutions to our traffic and air pollution problems
