Overview
Several factors play into the necessity of a project installing a bus stop, pad, or an easement for a future stop. Please contact Transit staff at ACCTransitDev@accgov.com to discuss requirements prior to submitting for Plans Review. Below are several, but not an exhaustive list in determining if and what type of bus stop will be required with the development of a project:
Subdivisions often require the construction or consideration of a bus stop depending upon the existing conditions.
If located on a corridor or where future Transit service expansion is projected.
The creation of 5 of more units in a project.
Commercial triggers also based on type of business, number of employees proposed, land size of the development.
In lieu of the pouring of a bus stop pad and/or constructing a bus shelter, Transit may request that an easement for a future bus stop be executed and recorded and shown on submitted civil plans. Easements are required to be a minimum of 5x16 or 11x16 to ensure that a Level 3 pad can be poured in the future. Please state on plans “In consideration for future transit expansion the department may request an easement for a future placement of bus stop amenities”
Spacing between current bus stops: ideally stops are spaced no more than 750’ to 1250’ (1/8 -1/4 of a mile) apart.
The level of bus stop (1 - 3) is largely dependent upon location - Level 1 and 2 stops are only approved for areas of very low density.
