Georgia Water & Pollution Control Association: Stormwater Program of the Year Georgia Association of Water Professionals logo

Athens-Clarke County was awarded the Georgia Water and Pollution Control Association (GWPCA) stormwater program of the year in 2003 and 2007. The award recognizes outstanding municipal stormwater management programs in Georgia. Candidates are judged by a committee of stormwater professionals.

The GWPCA is a professional organization that is dedicated to education, dissemination of technical and scientific information, increased public understanding, and promotion of sound public laws and programs in the water resources and related environmental fields. The association was established in 1932.

American Concrete Institute - Georgia Chapter: Outstanding Achievement

The Athens-Clarke County Department of Transportation and Public Works was selected by the Georgia Chapter of the American Concrete Institute to receive the Outstanding Achievement Award in January 2005. The award highlights innovative concrete paving projects. The department was recognized for its work with porous concrete at the Athens transit facility.

The award was sponsored by the Georgia Ready Mixed Concrete Association. The association promotes improved work and design techniques within the concrete industry.
