Here are some essential tips to help you determine the amount of rock needed, prepare for a single delivery, and ensure proper rock placement. Please ensure you have accurately calculated the amount of rock needed, as we can only make one delivery per property.
Tips for Determining the Amount of Rock Needed:
- Measure the Area: Calculate the square footage of the area you need to cover. This will help you estimate the volume of rock required.
- Depth Consideration: Determine the depth of the riprap layer. A common depth for riprap is 6-12 inches, depending on the severity of the erosion.
- Consultation: While our program doesn’t provide exact quantities, you can consult with local contractors or use online calculators to get an estimate based on your measurements.
Planning for a Single Delivery:
- Preparation: Delivery is to the right of way next to the road. Ensure the delivery area is accessible for trucks and has enough space to accommodate the entire load of rock. Drive a stake in the middle of the delivery zone.
- Timing: Schedule your delivery at a time when you’re ready to start the project. This will prevent the rock from sitting unused and potentially becoming a hazard.
- Coordination: If you’re working with contractors or helpers, coordinate the delivery time with them to ensure they’re available to start the project immediately.
Proper Rock Placement Techniques:
- Base Layer: Start with a stable base layer to support the riprap. This may include smaller stones or a geotextile fabric to prevent soil erosion underneath.
- Placement: Place the largest rocks at the bottom, gradually layering smaller rocks on top. Ensure the rocks are tightly packed to prevent movement.
