Adopt-A-Highway Application Form

  1. What is Adopt-A-Highway?

Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) is a community volunteer program managed by Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful (KACCB) aimed at maintaining county roads litter-free.

    Who Can Participate?

AAH groups can be comprised of any individual, private/commercial business, or civic/non-profit group (e.g., churches, neighbors, neighborhood associations, families, etc.) committed to conducting at least four (4) litter clean-ups each calendar year.  Those interested in joining the AAH program must submit an application. Once approved, AAH groups will become responsible for conducting regularly scheduled litter clean-ups along the stretch of road they’ve agreed to adopt.

    AAH Group Requirements

    All AAH groups must:

Conduct, at minimum, four (4) litter clean-ups each calendar year (January 1 – December 31st).

Schedule, self-organize, manage, and coordinate their own litter clean-ups.

Submit litter clean-up tool and supply requests to KACCB with at least 48-hours advance notice (not including weekends or holidays).

Pick up the litter clean-up tools/supplies requested from KACCB offices.

Bag and consolidate into one (or two) pile(s) all the litter, recyclable materials (e.g., cans, empty plastic and glass bottles), and other items (e.g., tires) collected during the clean-up.

Submit an online post clean-up report to KACCB after each clean-up is completed.

Return all loaned litter clean-up tools and leftover supplies to KACCB on the next business day after a clean-up is conducted.

Respond to all KACCB AAH-program related emails/inquiries in a timely manner.

AAH groups that fail to adhere to any of these requirements are subject to removal from the AAH program.

    KACCB's OBLIGATIONS

    KACCB staff will:

Identify roads currently available for adoption and provide interested groups with recommendations based on their preferences, if any.

If an AAH group desires, submit a request for a set of customized AAH signs to be manufactured and installed along the groups’ adopted stretch of road. Note – this is not required. Some AAH groups want the recognition, others wish conduct their clean-ups anonymously.

Provide, at no-cost, all AAH groups with necessary litter clean-up tools and supplies. Note – tools and supplies are limited in supply and are available on a first-come, first served basis, based on when the requests were received. Requests submitted with less than 48-hours advance notice (not including weekends or holidays) may go unfulfilled.

Coordinate the removal of all the bags of trash, recyclable materials (e.g., cans, empty plastic and glass bottles), and other items (e.g., tires) collected by AAH groups.

Each year, select an AAH group for its "AAH Group of the Year" award.
