Take Precaution!

Improper disposal of used needles can be an extreme health hazard. Here at the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department, we like to sustain a healthy and safe work environment. Please help us by spreading the word about proper needle disposal.

It is encouraged that home injectors dispose of their used needles in a rigid plastic container. These containers include a detergent bottle, bleach bottle, etc. The step following is important! Once the rigid container is full of used needles, this container should be thrown in the TRASH CAN, NOT the recycling bin! This will ensure that the needles end up in the LANDFILL and NOT in our recycling facility.

Don't worry, it's okay to put plastic in the trash can under this circumstance.
