Maintaining Parks

The Parks Cost Center provides mowing and related vegetation maintenance services to 400 acres at 18 parks under administration of the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department. During warm months more effort goes toward mowing of open areas and athletic fields and during the winter more effort goes toward control of overgrown areas and landscape bed and tree care. A full range of horticultural and arboricultural duties are provided.

Parks are broken into five maintenance zones requiring different frequencies and scope of care, from athletic fields to meadows and forest lands. Supplemental services include seasonal pest management, stabilization of eroded areas, landscape construction projects, animal damage control, storm damage response, and other support services for the Leisure Services Department.
