Athens-Clarke County is committed to green building in our community's homes and businesses. All new Athens-Clarke County building projects must meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification standards or higher. Currently, there are nearly 1.2 million square feet of building space in Athens that qualify for LEED certification standards.
"Green building" refers to constructing facilities that are environmentally conscious and efficiently use resources to provide a healthy environment for the land being built on and for those who work or live within.
