Captain Takia Taylor-Browner was born and raised in Athens, Georgia, and spent much of her childhood with her grandmother in nearby Watkinsville. She fondly recalls her early years fishing and reading the local newspaper, particularly taking interest in the police blotter and obituaries.
In 2002, she pursued a career in Funeral Services, where she gained extensive knowledge and hands-on experience while serving her community and building meaningful relationships for over two decades.
Captain Taylor-Browner began her career with the Clarke County Sheriff's Office in 2005. Initially assigned to the Clarke County Jail, she worked in various areas including housing units, the medical unit, intake and release, among other key operational posts.
In 2010, she was promoted to the rank of Corporal and assigned to the Inmate Support Section – Programs. In this role, she was responsible for providing inmates with mail, commissary, and reading materials. Her duties also included coordinating and implementing rehabilitative, educational, and religious programs; scheduling contact visits between inmates and community resource personnel; training religious leaders, social service providers, and other volunteers on appropriate engagement within the jail; and performing various administrative and support functions.
In 2012, she launched and facilitated a program titled Circle of Life (COLS)—a class designed specifically for women to explore emotional well-being through open discussion, meditation, relaxation, and self-awareness practices including yoga. The program garnered statewide media attention and recognition.
In 2019, Captain Taylor-Browner became a certified Jail Training Officer (JTO), responsible for delivering comprehensive on-the-job training to new deputies. Her instruction emphasized jail operations, safety procedures, and effective communication with inmates, staff, volunteers, and vendors.
In 2020, she was assigned to Court Services, where she handled prisoner transport and court security. The following year, she was assigned to Magistrate Court, gaining experience in first appearance bond hearings, civil process procedures, and the prosecution of both criminal and civil cases.
In 2022, to further her career she transitioned to the District Attorney’s Office for the Western Judicial Circuit, where she served as an Investigator, applying her extensive training, experience, and insight to support prosecutorial functions.
Captain Taylor-Browner holds a degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern University. Her professional development includes specialized training in Death and Homicide Investigations through PACT, as well as Athens-Clarke County’s Organizational and Development course "Stepping Up to Supervision." She is also a Certified At-Risk Adult Crime Tactics Specialist (GBI) and has received various additional trainings, including in the area of street gang investigations.
In her personal time, Captain Taylor-Browner enjoys spending time with her family, exploring unique dining experiences, and taking nature walks.
Captain Taylor-Browner is honored to return to the Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, where she will continue to serve her community with dignity, respect, and unwavering commitment. In her role as Captain of the Court Security Unit, she remains dedicated to upholding the values and mission of the agency.
