Athens-Clarke County received a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to help improve roadway safety for all users, including driving, walking, biking and transit. The project began in August 2024 and will continue through December 2025. The Safety Action Plan (SAP) is aimed at reducing injuries and fatalities resulting from roadway crashes by developing recommendations and strategies to increase roadway safety for all modes of transportation.
Public engagement is underway with several ways to get involved. The project’s second online public survey has launched for residents to provide input about planning and prioritizing roadway, sidewalk, cycling, and transit safety measures throughout Athens-Clarke County. The online survey is available at www.accgov.com/safestreets through August 3.
The project team will hold two upcoming outreach events to learn more about the project and provide feedback on the high injury network and potential roadway safety improvements.
- Juneteenth Music and Arts Festival - June 19 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the corner of College Avenue and Washington Street in downtown Athens in front of City Hall
