Sandy Creek BBQ, Blues & Cruise-In Oct. 13Celebrate the arrival of fall with ACCGov Leisure Services at the inaugural outdoor “BBQ, Blues, and Cruise-In” event at Sandy Creek Park (400 Holman Road) on Sunday, October 13, 2024 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. The event will feature live blues bands, local BBQ and dessert food vendors, a beer garden, and a car cruise-in. Park entry for the event and event admission are free. Helene cleanup + leaf & limb on-demandThanks to the hardworking ACCGov staff who worked around the clock responding to the effects of Hurricane Helene in late September. - Police dispatchers in the 911 center logged over 100 locations that needed service due to traffic signal problems, fallen trees or debris, and power outages.
- Leisure Services staff cleared 29 trees over three work days that had fallen on trails
- Central Services' Landscape Management and Transportation & Public Works' Streets and Drainage crews spent 735 hours clearing roadways and sidewalks.
- 127.67 tons of debris were collected and hauled off to the Landfill for composting.
- Traffic Engineering crews repaired numerous traffic signals that were out of regular service

Sosebee inducted into Elections Hall of FameCongratulations to Charlotte Sosebee, ACCGov Elections Director, who recently became a National Hall of Fame inductee with the National Association for Election Officials. Sosebee’s career spans 35+ years in the elections and voter registration profession in the state of Georgia. She has been with ACCGov for seven years, and previously served over 27 years in Hall County, GA as Director of Elections and Chief Registrar. Sims named Solid Waste Worker of the YearJonathan “Buck” Sims, a Collection Division Driver, was recently named Solid Waste Worker of the Year at the joint Georgia Solid Waste Association of North America/Georgia Recycling Coalition Conference on September 18, 2024. Sims has been with the ACC Solid Waste Department for more than 22 years. His unit is responsible for maintaining eight recycling drop-off sites and managing commercial trash and recycling services. Advance Voting, Oct. 15 - Nov. 1Advance voting for the November 5 General Election begins Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00 AM and continues until Friday, November 3 at a variety of locations around the community. Advance Voting Location ChangePreviously, the downtown Elections Department office has served as a location for all three weeks of advance voting. This year, however, the Elections Department is NOT a location for advance voting. Residents can vote nearby at the Lyndon House (211 Hoyt Street) instead of the Elections Department. Advance voting on weekends and during the week of Oct. 28 - Nov. 1 will take place at the Lyndon House and a number of other locations in the community. Register for the Parade of Lights by Nov. 5Entries are now being accepted for the 2024 Athens-Clarke County Downtown Parade of Lights. This year's theme is "Run, Run Rudolph." The parade is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, and the deadline for entries is Tuesday, November 5 at 5:00 PM. Late applications are not accepted. Community Tree Needed for HolidaysACCGov's Landscape Management Division is seeking a privately-owned tree for donation as a public Christmas tree for display in front of City Hall during December. The tree should be: - Cedar
- Approximately 20 feet wide
- Approximately 35 feet tall
- Symmetrical, with a single trunk.
The ideal candidate tree would be one that will need to be removed at some point in the future by the property owner due to its location, size, or other factor. Landscape Management will evaluate trees and handle tree removal and transportation at no cost to the owner. Potential donors should contact the Landscape Management Division at 706-613-3561.
