Community input on desired growth & future land use planning through April

Want to have a say in how Athens-Clarke County grows over the next 20 years?

ACCGov will host a series of public input events and an online survey as part of the Planning Department’s continued efforts to update Athens-Clarke County’s Future Land Use Plan. Events and opportunities for public input will take place beginning March 21 through the end of April 2024.

A series of eight public meetings will take place at locations around the community between March 21 and April 18. At these events, staff will be present to talk about the planning process, answer questions, and assist residents with filling out the survey. A list of events and event flyers are available below or at www.accgov.com/compplan.

Planning Department staff will also provide a series of drop-in opportunities on weekdays from March 25 through April 26 from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM in the auditorium at 120 West Dougherty Street for residents to talk directly with a planner, learn more about the plan, and take the current survey.

The survey is also available online at www.accgov.com/compplan through April 30 for residents to share feedback at any time

Facilities Management staff build playhouse for special needs classroom

Back in January, ACCGov's Central Services Department / Facilities Management Division delivered a charming little playhouse to a first-grade special needs classroom at Barnett Shoals Elementary School.

The playhouse was thoughtfully designed and constructed by Facilities Management staff as part of their "Holiday Giveback" initiative, which aimed to make a positive impact on the community around the holidays.

Phone ringing from an unknown caller on a black background

Beware of common "local" phone scams

ACCGov has received reports of scam calls in which residents are asked to obtain cash or gift cards to pay off court fines or pay property taxes or in which they are asked to provide banking information for jury duty.

These are scams. ACCGov courts and offices will never call to request payment information or banking information over the phone.

Sometimes the caller ID is spoofed to misidentify the caller as an ACCGov office, but don’t be fooled! If you have any questions about a call you've received, contact the appropriate department or office directly. If you've fallen victim to a scam, contact the Police Department.

Questions:

  • Jury duty - Clerk of Superior and State Court (706-613-3190)
  • Municipal Court fines - Municipal Court (706-613-3690)
  • Property taxes - Tax Commissioner (706-613-3120)
