Coming soon: New voter registration cards

Changes to local voting precinct boundary lines and new locations for some voting sites were approved in the fall by the Board of Elections. These changes will go into effect beginning with the 2024 Presidential Preference Primary Election set for March 12, 2024.

Residents’ voting districts or ballots did not change – only the location at which some voters will vote if they vote in-person on an election day. The changes do not affect voters’ advance voting options.

New voter registration cards are being mailed to every registered voter – whether their in-person voting location changed or not – and should be received by late January / early February. So you'll have a nice, clean, new card for 2024 either way.

Even though only some voters will have changes on their cards, all voters are encouraged to check their cards to make sure they know their districts and voting locations.

For more information, call the Elections Department at 706-613-3150 or visit www.accgov.com/elections.

Help verify the National Broadband map

ACCGov uses the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) National Broadband Map and other resources for data about high-speed internet services available for residents. The FCC map provides details about internet services available to every address in Athens-Clarke County.

State and federal agencies utilize the National Broadband Map to identify unserved and underserved areas for grant funding opportunities.

The SPLOST Office is asking residents, especially those who have been unable to get services, to look up their address on the federal map and verify the accuracy of the data shown. If services are listed that are incorrect or unavailable, residents can challenge and update the map’s information.

Visit accgov.com/broadband for more information.

Winter Water Tips

Follow these tips before freezing weather arrives to help protect your plumbing from damage:

  • Shut off and drain any outdoor hoses, sprinklers, and irrigation systems before temperatures plummet.
  • Wrap your pipes in insulation or pipe sleeves
  • Find your main water valve and ensure you can turn it off. Your water main might be in your basement or under a metal cover in your yard near the street.
  • Close off crawl spaces, seal any holes, and ensure all the pipes in your home are protected from outside air.

For more tips including what to do when freezing temperatures arrive or when your pipes do freeze, visit accgov.com/winterwatertips.
