"Memory Worker: Works by Kelly Taylor Mitchell" at Lyndon House Arts CenterThe Lyndon House Arts Center announces the opening of "Memory Worker" by Kelly Taylor Mitchell. This exhibit is on view through March 12, 2024. The opening reception is Saturday November 18 at 2:00 p.m. Kelly Taylor Mitchell is an artist and educator who lives and works in Atlanta, GA where she is currently a 2023- 2024 Midtown Alliance Artist-in-Residence, a 2024-Arts & Social Justice Fellow at Emory University, and an Assistant Professor of Art and Visual Culture at Spelman College. Kelly’s multidisciplinary practice centers oral history and ancestral memory, real and imagined, woven into the fabric of the Africana Diaspora. Her work is deeply invested in labor-intensive making, slowness, and homespun passed down processes resulting in works of printmaking, papermaking, performance, book arts, and textiles. She is the recipient of the BIPOC Fellowship by the Lyndon House Arts Foundation (LHAF). This program is supported by LHAF whose mission is committed to increasing the visibility and contribution of BIPOC artists as well as raising the creative economics of the arts and encouraging leadership roles within the arts profession and the education communityAll exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. "Movies by Moonlight" at Sandy Creek ParkThe Leisure Services Department will host a free “Movies by Moonlight” holiday double feature outdoor movie event on Friday, December 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Park.
The event features the original animated "Frosty the Snowman” followed by the family classic "The Polar Express.”
Fire pits as well as free s’more kits and hot chocolate will be available.
Registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will sit near the park's pavilion to watch the films on the large inflatable screen.

"Adopt an Animal" Sponsorship Program at Bear Hollow ZooBear Hollow Zoo offers "Adopt an Animal," a unique sponsorship program that allows individuals the opportunity to "adopt" and help a Zoo resident of his/her choice. Donations are used for exhibits, food, and wildlife education. There is a sponsorship level that fits every budget, and it makes a great gift idea for birthdays, holidays and other special events. Holiday HoursLeisure Services Department facilities will be closed Sunday, December 24 through Monday, December 25 in observance of the Christmas holiday. On Tuesday, December 26 parks will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Facilities will remain closed.
Facilities and parks will re-open Wednesday, December 27 with regular hours of operation.
All facilities and Sandy Creek Park will be closed on Monday, January 1. All remaining parks will operate under reduced hours from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. All parks and facilities will resume regular hours of operation Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

New Year = New ScholarshipAll Leisure Services Department scholarships expired on December 31 and need to be renewed at a Leisure Services facility office. Those wishing to use a department scholarship for summer camps, must apply for a scholarship by March 1 to guarantee it is active in time for registration.

"Under the Sea"Can you escape before the creatures of the deep find you? Families must be 8 people or fewer per session. Recommended for ages 5-adult. If you have children younger than 5-9, choose the easier puzzle option during registration. Groups including children 10 and older, choose the more difficult puzzle.
This program takes place Wednesday, January 3, Thursday, January 4, or Friday, January 5 with a variety of time options. The fee is $20 per group. Maximum of 8 people per group. Only register one person for the group.

Out of this World!Join us for our planetarium program in the Sky Center at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
Attendees will journey through the night sky, exploring the great beyond.
The December theme is "Mythology of the Planets - All About Moons." Observe our moon and see moons of other planets and the importance of moons. This program is for ages five and older. Children under 13 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Pre-registration is required. This planetarium program is scheduled for Saturday, December 30 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. The fee is $5 ACC residents and $7.50 non-residents.
