Online Fall Registration

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announces its fall activity opportunities for 2022 featuring a diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events for adults and children. Programs include art classes, baton, youth cooking classes, dance, gymnastics, homeschool activities, nature programs, preschool activities, soccer, softball, teen programs, tennis, theatre, therapeutic recreation, and special holiday events. Online activity registration for Athens-Clarke County residents will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 6.  Non-residents may register online starting Monday, August 8 at noon.  

Registration will continue until activities are at full enrollment or they begin.
Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec.  Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. 

Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office at least five business days prior to registering for a program.   Scholarships must be applied for in person.  Information regarding the scholarship activity, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship. 

Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using a public computer at Heard Park Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

Jekyll and Hyde

Get in the Spotlight

Athens Creative Theatre will hold auditions for the musical “Jekyll & Hyde” on Monday, August 8 and Tuesday, August 9 at Quinn Hall at Memorial Park.  Show dates are November 10 – 13, 2022 at the Morton Theatre.

“Jekyll & Hyde” is the epic struggle between good and evil comes to live on stage in the musical, "Jekyll & Hyde." An evocative tale of two men - one, a doctor, passionate and romantic: the other, a terrifying madman - and two women - one, beautiful and trusting; the other, beautiful and trusting only herself - both women in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driving to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind's most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man that the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde.

Movies by Moonlight

Movies by Moonlight at Dudley Park

The Leisure Services Department will host a free “Movies by Moonlight” outdoor movie on Saturday, August 13 at 8:30 p.m. at Dudley Park.

The event features the 1997 Science Fiction film “The Fifth Element” and will be presented in the earthen amphitheater adjacent to the restroom building near the Firefly Trail.

Registration is not required.  Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will sit on the ground to watch the film on the large inflatable screen. Food and beverages will not be sold or provided at the park. Restrooms and water fountains will be available until the end of the screening.  

Patrons can ride bikes or walk to the viewing area which is accessible from the Firefly Trail and Greenway Trail. Parking can also be utilized at both Dudley Park parking lots; 286 South Poplar Street and 1170 East Broad Street.

All park rules will be enforced, including; dogs always on leash, no alcohol, no smoking, and no grills/cooking.

Grand Slam

Summer Fun for Teens

Grand Slam summer program for teens returns in June!
“Grand Slam” is a special summertime program for middle and high school students who reside in Athens-Clarke County. 

This program takes place Friday evenings in July from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Lay Park located at 297 Hoyt Street.

Evenings include games, giveaways, guest speakers, life enrichment activities, music, refreshments, sports, & more.

The program is free of charge, however online registration is required.

"Robert Croker at Random 2022" at Lyndon House Arts Center

The Lyndon House Arts Center is presenting an exhibition of works by Robert Croker at Random 2022 on view until September 9.

A former teacher at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Art Preparator at the Georgia Museum of Art, Croker’s works was last exhibited in 2014 during the city-wide shows and events entitled Art Rocks Athens.

This new suite of watercolor on paper will fill the West Gallery in a stacked installation.  Monumental yet meditative.

All exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public.  Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department offers scholarship to qualifying Athens-Clarke County children. 

Scholarships allow participants to pay less than the program fee.
