Registration Continues!The Leisure Services Department continues summer camp registration.. The Department offers the most diverse selection of award winning summer camps in Northeast Georgia including day camps highlighting art, dance, nature education, sports, and theatre.

Buy Local!The Athens Farmers Market is back at Bishop Park! The Market exists to provide an economic, educational, and cultural connection between community members, farmers, and artisans. Hours of operation are Saturdays, through December 17, from 8:00 a.m. - noon at Bishop Park.

47th Juried ExhibitionThe 47th Juried Exhibition is underway at Lyndon House Arts Center. The show is curated by Miranda Lash, the Ellen Bruss Senior Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver. The exhibition will be on view through May 21, 2022. Miranda Lash reviewed 656 works of all media submitted for review by 237 Athens area artists. Of these, Ms. Lash selected 160 works of drawing, metal work, painting, photography, sculpture, video, and more. In addition, multiple awards have been selected by the Juror to be announced on opening day. Throughout the run of the exhibition, the Lyndon House Arts Center will host artist talks in the galleries on Third Thursdays including April 21 and May 19 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays, April 2 and April 23 at 2:00 p.m. Gallery hours are Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. All exhibitions are free and open to the public. Limited Tickets AvailableAthens Creative Theatre (ACT) presents The Sugar Bean Sisters, March 24 through 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Quinn Hall at Memorial Park.In this Southern Gothic comedy of romance, murder and alien abduction, the Nettle sisters are determined to escape spinsterhood—one by going to Salt Lake and finding a good Mormon husband and the other by hopping on the spaceship when the “space people” return. Faye and Willie Mae are returning home to their swamp dwelling in Sugar Bean, Florida, after a disastrous day trip to Disney World. Having witnessed the landing of an alien space craft some 25 years ago in her daddy’s sugarcane field, Faye prepares for the return of her celestial visitors on this night, the very anniversary of that fateful day. Tickets are currently on sale and will be available through the Morton Theatre Box office (ticket outlet only) or by calling 706-613-3771. Still Hiring!The Leisure Services Department is hiring 120 summer positions. Applications are currently being accepted for summer positions with camps and aquatics.
Pay begins at $15 an hour. Mid-summer bonuses, dependent on position, range from $200 - $400.

Firefly Discovery RideYou have been hearing about the Firefly Trail and how much fun it is to ride a bike on, now it’s time to discover what it is all about! Pump up the tires on those family bikes and join the Department's Trails and Open Space staff on this fun ride. Learn about the history of the trail and future plans. See Athens from a new direction, and discover what a wonderful paved trail system you have here in the Classic City. Bring your own bikes and gear for this six-mile round trip tour.

Out of this World!Join us for a planetarium program in the Sky Center at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Attendees will journey through the night sky, exploring the great beyond. The April theme is "Space in the Movies" and we will compare Hollywood's depiction of space with real astronomy. This special program is scheduled for Saturday, April 16 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. The fee is $2 for ACC residents and $3 for non-residents.
