Be a Part of the 20th Annual Athens MLK Day of Service

Athenians are invited to honor Dr. King's legacy at the 20th Annual Athens-Clarke County Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 17, 2022. In 1994, Congress made the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday an official day of service. Athens-Clarke County is one of the thousands of cities across the United States that makes the holiday "A Day On and Not a Day Off.”

This year’s drive-thru style kick-off will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 AM at Clarke Central High School, located at 350 South Milledge Avenue. T-shirts and biscuits will be given out to the first 400 volunteers.

More than 25 different community organizations and schools will host volunteer service projects for the Day of Service, including Books for Keeps, Family Promise of Athens, Friends of Brooklyn Cemetery, Joy Village School, Sweet Olive Farm, and more. A variety of project types and shifts are available throughout the day.

Volunteer registration is currently underway, and those interested in participating can find the registration link online at www.accgov.com/mlkday. Registration will close on January 14, and walk-up registration will be limited. All CDC guidelines will be followed to limit the transmission of COVID-19.
