Art!

Expressing the Inner World is an exhibition of abstract paintings by members of the Inside Out artists group currently on display at the Lyndon House Arts Center. Inside Out artists create non-objective artworks that make the inner-self visible through color, mark-making, and textures.

Originally proposed in 2018, this exhibition includes paintings from 24 women working primarily in the Southeast and is now on view through October 23, 2021.

All exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public during gallery hours of Tuesday and Thursday of 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The Lyndon House Arts Center is closed when there is a home University of Georgia football game.

It's Going to be Wild!

The Department will host Zoo Day 2021 on Saturday, August 28 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park.

The theme is “Guardians of the Zoo-niverse” and participants will experience a fun filled day of craft stations, education, animal encounters, and special guests.

The fee for this event is $2 per person for Athens-Clarke County residents and $3 per person for non-residents. Timed ticketing required (30 minute time slots per 50 guests). Online registration required in advance. Children under the age of 2 are admitted free of charge.

Hey Coach!

Youth fall soccer registration continues with the season starting, soon!

Get in the game and become a volunteer soccer coach! Impact lives and have fun as you coach children in this youth sports program. No experience necessary.

Teams are arranged by age. The time commitment for the season is an average of two hours a week, one hour for practice and one hour for games.

All coaches must complete a background check and attend a coaches clinic.

The Department continues its fall activity opportunities for 2021 featuring a diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events for adults and children.

Online registration continues until activities are full or they begin.

Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec. Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card.

Individuals who already have an online account and received or renewed a Leisure Services Department scholarship since January 1, 2021, may use the scholarship when registering online.

Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office at least five business days prior to registering for a program. Scholarships must be applied for in person. Information regarding the scholarship activity, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship.

Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.
