A Beautiful Night for a Hike!

Discover local trails by moonlight! Come along on our guided Full Moon Hike. Enjoy activities that enhance the beauty and magic of our forest at night. 

This hike is for ages 8 and older.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  This activity will take place Saturday, February 27 from 6:30 - 7:45 p.m. at Southeast Clarke Park.  The fee is $2 for ACC residents and $3 for non-residents.  Online registration is required.

Wear warm clothes, and shoes appropriate for hiking. Bring a small light. We will have some loaner flashlights

Tiny Tales

Tiny Tales at the Zoo!

Join us this Spring for Tiny Tales at the Zoo! This spring, we will be back in session with in-person stories, crafts, and animal encounters! Enjoy the day
at Bear Hollow Zoo!

This activity is open to children ages 0-6 years. This program is $3 for Athens-Clarke County residents and $4.50 for non-county residents.

Parents/chaperones are admitted free of charge and must accompany children. Masks are required. Online registration is required.

Misery

Now on Stage...

Athens Creative Theatre presents "Misery" by William Goldman, based on the novel by Stephen King. 

A psychological thriller following the story of a successful romance novelist Pail Sheldon and his captor and number one fan Annie Wilkes who becomes enraged when she discovers her favorite character is killed off in Paul’s newest novel. Annie forces Paul to write a new “Misery” novel and quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go. He quite literally is writing as if his life depends on it,
and it does. 

The production will be live streamed from Quinn Hall on March 5 and 6 at 7:00 p.m. Live streaming access is $6 per person and registration can be completed online.

Spring Registration

Spring Activities Available!

The Department's spring registration is underway.  
Registration will continue until activities are at full enrollment or they begin.

Upcoming activities include:
  • Art Classes (adult and youth)
  • Baton
  • Soccer (adult and youth)
  • Teen Activities
  • Therapeutic Recreation
Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. 

On November 1, 2020, the Leisure Services Department updated its online registration software.  Individuals who have not established a new online account since November 2020, must do so at www.accgov.com/leisure .

Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the computer labs at East Athens Community Center at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation.

Those who wish to apply or renew a scholarship are encouraged to visit www.accgov.com/scholarship to learn about the required documentation and application process.

Masks On

Park and Facility Update

All Department parks and facilities continue to operate .All Department parks and facilities continue to operate under restricted use and limited public access. The following restrictions are in effect for the immediate future:

• Athletic fields and gymnasiums are open. Athletic leagues can participate in internal scrimmages (no out of county teams can participate).

• Basketball, pickleball, tennis, and volleyball courts as well as playgrounds are open. Dog park access is limited.  Bear Hollow Zoo is open.

• Morton Theatre remains closed.

Face covers must be worn at all parks and facilities. People are reminded to continue to limit close contact, practice physical distancing measures, wash or sanitize hands frequently, and follow group gathering and other guidelines per the governor's statewide executive orders.
