College Ave Low Bridge 3
College Ave.Low Bridge Warning Device

The Traffic Engineering staff are nearing completion of a new detection/warning system on College Avenue for the railroad bridge.

The system is installed on 8 poles (4 on each side of the bridge). The first 2 poles have laser sensors that are set to the minimum height allowed. When the sensors are activated by an over-height vehicle, the second set of poles are alerted. The pole placement is designed to allow the driver sufficient distance to turn around using existing side streets or driveways. A driver will have 4 signs activated for warning, along with the existing signs which remain attached to the bridge.

Staff is installing this system as an "off system" safety project with funding assistance from GDOT as a safety measure to reduce bridge impacts. The full system is scheduled to be in operation early November.
