  2. Scrap Tire Amnesty Week @ Landfill

    November 13, 2017, 8:00 AM - November 18, 2017, 3:00 PM @ Athens-Clarke County Landfill

It’s time for our annual Tire Amnesty Week, Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste will allow residents the opportunity to rid themselves of used passenger or small truck tires in a responsible manner. Millions of scrap tires sit in stock piles across Athens. These tire piles are aesthetically displeasing, act as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, and can potentially fuel dangerous fires. Events like this helps prevent illegal dumping and contamination of recyclable materials. Scrap tires can be dropped off at the Athens-Clarke County Landfill, located at 5700 Lexington Road November 13-18 day between 8 am and 3 pm and at our CHaRM, located at 1005 College Ave Monday and Wednesday between 10 am - 7 pm and Saturday between 8 am and 12 pm free of charge. There is a limit of 6 tires per vehicle and tires must be removed from the rim.

  1. Poop Rocks!

    November 10, 2017, 12:00 PM - November 21, 2017, 8:00 AM

Poop rocks! Ok, maybe not so much, but toilets definitely rock. And this is the reason for World Toilet Day, which is recognized every November 19. Toilets are life savers. 1 in 3 people in the world do not have access to a nearby toilet. 892 million people have to defecate in the open. To raise awareness, "Poop Rocks" will be dropped around town on the next two Fridays. In Athens, be on the lookout for these artful poops (set your art standards low). In places without the improved sanitation facilities Athens has, you'd find actual poop. Clues for poop rock locations will be shared November 10 & 17 on Instagram @ Lily Anne Phibian, #fafath. Pick up the poop and claim it on Instagram. Then visit http://www.worldtoiletday.info/ to learn more.
