To mark the 100 year anniversary of the end of World War I. Over a three-year period, John Cleaveland traveled to France and photographed current day sites of World War I battles. The artist translated his photographs into rich oil paintings on view in his exhibition, John Cleaveland's WWI Landscapeson view until November 9.

Poppies Everywhere! Red poppies were introduced as a symbol of remembrance during WWI, by Moina Michael, an Athens resident. In combination with the exhibit of Cleaveland’s paintings, artist Lou Kregel has a painted poppy on display in the vestibule. We are teaming with the Moina Michael Poppy Project to host a hands-on Community Makers Poppy Event (Facebook Event) during the House Party Event on Oct 20 (Facebook Event). The Athens History Room in the Ware-Lyndon Historic House also has an exhibit featuring "Poppy Lady" ephemera and a sculptural centerpiece by artist Andrea Wellnitz.

Introducing Our New Fall Artist in Residence

We are so excited to have Mo Costello using both the photography and printmaking studios. Mo says, "I have found that both traditional photographic and printmaking processes readily lend themselves to physical experimentation, improvisation and play. Moving between the two is similarly generative. Moreover, in immersion, disciplinary boundaries tend to collapse, which in turn creates space for new forms, new methodologies to arise."
