Countdown to Camp!

The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will post its slate of summer camp programs for 2018 on Friday, March 16.

The Department offers the most diverse selection of award winning summer camps in Northeast Georgia including traditional day camps and mini camps highlighting art, nature education, sports, and theatre.  Opportunities are available for children from ages 4-16.

Camp listings will be available at by clicking on the "camps" tab.  Registration will take place online at  Online registration begins Saturday, April 7 at 9:00 a.m. for Athens-Clarke County residents.  Non-residents may register beginning Monday, April 9 at noon.  Parents who have not already established a free online account, are encouraged to do so at .
Scholarships are available for qualifying ACC residents.  Parents who wish to apply for a scholarship must do so in person at a Leisure Services Department facility office.  Applicants must apply for a scholarship at least five business days prior to registering for a program or camp.  Applicants must have a valid email address.  More information, including required documentation, is available at .

Art Everywhere!

Lyndon House Arts Center will host an opening reception of the 43rd Juried Exhibition on Thursday, March 22 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. 

Ms. Wassan Al-Khudhairi, Chief Curator at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, was chosen as Guest Juror to select this year’s show. She visited Athens in January to review Athens area artist submissions.  In those two days, 373 artists arrived with original works for consideration.  Wassan Al-Khudhairi investigated the multitude of works in the galleries. The result is a beautiful group exhibit of 126 pieces that include multi-media works, large sculpture, works on paper, photography, painting, and fiber.

The Juried Show will be on display March 22-May 5 during regular gallery hours of Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 9:00 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The exhibition is free and open to the public, however children must be accompanied by an adult.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday!

Make a wish!  The Leisure Services Department will present a special birthday party for Bear Hollow Zoo’s resident bears Athena, DJ, and Yonah.  

Bear Hollow Zoo will host this special birthday celebration Saturday, March 24 from noon – 3:00 p.m. The bears’ cake and presents will be delivered at 12:30 p.m.

The community is invited to join this celebration and watch the bears unwrap their presents and enjoy their cake.  A birthday card will be available to be signed by well-wishers, as well as crafts, and special birthday treats. This program is free and open to the public.

Easter Eggs


The Department has plenty of Easter events to keep everyone hopping!
Egg Hunts are planned at different Department sites: 
Breakfast with the Bunny, scheduled for Saturday, March 31 at Memorial Park, includes continental breakfast, crafts and activities for children, and a chance to meet and have a photo taken with the Easter Bunny himself. Limited opens remain for the 9:00 a.m. session.  Online registration is underway.

Little Peeps Easter Fun is a holiday event for toddlers and their parents.  The program, set for Wednesday, March 18 at Rocksprings Park includes Jello Easter eggs, bunny ear craft time, mini Easter basket, bunny puppet bags, little peeps snack time, and games. Online registration is underway.
