Call for Art Submissions: 43rd Juried Exhibition 

Submission Days:
Thursday, January 25, 1 - 8 PM and 
Friday, January 26, 10 - 4 PM 
Drop off up to 3 works at the Arts Center,
 211 Hoyt Street

Exciting & New: We will have a submission form available online beginning Jan 5 through Jan 26, 4PM. Please fill this form out anytime between these dates. We encourage you to fill it out before bringing your works in. That means we'll have your info ready to go when you arrive. The link will be found HERE. If you can not fill out the form online prior to your arrival on submission days, we will help you when you get here.

Call for Artists - Visions of MLK

The Arts Center invites artists and writers to design original works for our annual “Visions of MLK Art Exhibition.” Collaborations between artists and writers are encouraged but not required. We have panels at the Arts Center. Swing by to pick-up your panel- Great for painting, drawing and writing! This year’s theme, "Time to Do What’s Right," is curated by Montu Miller.

Visions of MLK Reception & Celebration

Community Event and Exhibits January 13 begins at 1:00 pm 
Community hands-on art project begins at 12:00 pm 
Exhibit on view through February 10


Organized by Montu Miller, the celebration is entering its 11th year as a supporting event associated with the public initiative, “Make It A Day On, Not A Day Off Day of Service.” Featuring a collaborative project by the youth of the Pinewoods neighborhood inspired by Faith Ringgold’s Story Quilts in addition to works by artists and writers who combine poetic words and visual works to interpret and communicate powerful ideas. The performances will include step teams, poetry reading, song and dance.


Chess and Community will be here for games and conversation.

Keum Boo & Roller Printing Studio Experience

Keum Boo and Roller Printing Studio Experience
with Barbara Mann


Saturday, January 20, 10 AM - 4 PM
 
This informative and fun one day workshop is suitable for all levels from beginner to advanced. Students will experiment with the ancient Asian metalwork technique of keum boo, which involves bonding 24 karat gold to silver. In combination with learning the bonding method, students will learn to add texture to metal using a jeweler’s rolling mill to emboss the surface of metalusing materials such as lace, snakeskin, cornhusks, etc.
 
An active Open Studio Membership is required, in addition to a materials fee of $50 (includes 24 karat gold foil, sterling silver sheet, copper sheet, brass sheet, blades, ear wires and pendant bails)  

Please note that space is limited to 8 participants.  A reservation sign-up sheet will be available January 11th.  Please visit the Arts Center to reserve your spot.

NEW! Digital Photography in the Age of Instagram

January 11 – February 15 (6 weeks), Thursdays, 6 – 8 PM

Students will use their smartphone cameras to explore street 
photography, portraiture and landscape studies. For ages 11 to 111. Perfect for family enrollment, teens and multigenerational groups.
No experience required.

Instructor: Clay Jordan is an exhibition professional photographer and musician in the local Athens band Pacific UV

Instructed by artist Katherine Miller, students will learn to combine printmaking and bookbinding processes into unique works of art.
