Pictures with Santa- 12:30 - 2:30 pm. First come, first served.

Lyndon House Juried Show

Announcing the 43rd Juried Exhibition:
Juror, Wassan Al-Khudhairi,
Chief Curator at Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis


Submission Days: Thursday, January 25 and Friday, January 26, 2018

Al-Khudhairi received her BA in Art History from Georgia State University and M.A. with distinction in Islamic Art and Architecture from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London. Al-Khudhairi is of Iraqi origin and has lived in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the U.K. and the U.S., where she worked at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York.  Before her position in St. Louis, Wassan Al-Khudhairi most recently was the curator of modern and contemporary art at the Birmingham Museum of Art in Alabama. This fall, she curated the 2017 Asian Art Biennial in Taiwan.

“She has extraordinary breadth of experience and global knowledge of the contemporary art world, which is seamlessly balanced with her attention to local and regional communities and audiences. We are grateful to have her vision and abilities at CAM and in St. Louis.” - Lisa Melandri, executive director of the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis

The Arts Center invites artists and writers to design original works for our annual “Visions of MLK Art Exhibition.” Collaborations between artists and writers are encouraged but not required. This year’s theme, "Do What’s Right," is curated by Montu Miller.

Youth hands-on art project: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm


Organized by Montu Miller, the celebration is entering its 11th year as a supporting event associated with the public initiative, “Make It A Day On, Not A Day Off Day of Service.” Featuring a collaborative project by the youth of the Pinewoods neighborhood inspired by Faith Ringgold’s Story Quilts in addition to works by artists and writers who combine poetic words and visual works to interpret and communicate powerful ideas. The performances will include step teams, poetry reading,
song and dance.

January 11 – February 15 (6 weeks), Thursdays, 6 – 8 PM

Students will use their smartphone cameras to explore street 
photography, portraiture and landscape studies. For ages 11 to 111. Perfect for family enrollment, teens and multigenerational groups.
No experience required.

Instructor: Clay Jordan is an exhibition professional photographer and musician in the local Athens band Pacific UV

Printmaking & Book Arts

(6 weeks)
Tues, 6:30 - 8:30 pm


Instructed by artist Katherine Miller, students will learn to combine printmaking and bookbinding processes into unique works of art.

No experience required!

January 16 - February 27 (7 weeks), Tuesdays, 6:30 – 8:30 pm 

Taking cues from the rooms of the historic Ware-Lyndon House, instructor Edward Stephens will lead students in crafting poetry and short fiction that reanimates its preserved atmosphere with new life. In addition to writing and work-shopping, class time will be devoted to exploring the house and considering relevant examples of work by other authors. All experience levels welcome.
