Congratulations! The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department’s Morton Theatre has been awarded a $57,000 investment through the Fox Theatre’s Fox Gives single-year grant program, an initiative dedicated to preserving Georgia’s cultural heritage, fostering economic growth and strengthening community spaces.
Now in its 17th year, Fox Gives has awarded more than $4.7 million to historic venues across Georgia and the Southeast. This total includes more than $4.2 million in single-year grants distributed to 64 venues throughout the region. These investments support a wide range of needs – from emergency repairs and historic structure studies to infrastructure upgrades, technical assistance and long-term preservation planning – helping iconic institutions remain pillars of regional civic and cultural life across Georgia.
This grant, the second awarded by the Fox Theatre since 2011, supports the construction of new auditorium stage stairs and improvements to the stage pit area. The Morton Theatre, one of the few remaining African American-built theaters in Georgia, features one of the most exquisitely restored auditorium interiors in Georgia. A longtime Georgia Presenter member, the Morton’s leadership has played a significant role in developing the Chitlin Circuit Heritage Trail in partnership with the Fox Theatre and the Georgia Historic Preservation Division.
Since its inception in 2008, the Fox Gives single-year grants program has helped revitalize more than 70 community arts venues, sustaining them as vital gathering places and driving economic growth.
