"Movies by Moonlight" at Dudley ParkThe Leisure Services Department will host a free “Movies by Moonlight” outdoor film on Saturday, August 16 at 8:30 p.m. at Dudley Park
The event features the 2009 film “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and will be presented in the earthen amphitheater adjacent to the restroom building near the Firefly Trail.
Registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will sit on the ground to watch the film on the large inflatable screen. Food and beverages will not be sold or provided at the park. Restrooms and water fountains will be available until the end of the screening.
Patrons can ride bikes or walk to the viewing area which is accessible from the Firefly Trail and Greenway Trail. Parking can also be utilized at both Dudley Park parking lots; 286 South Poplar Street and 1170 East Broad Street.
All park rules will be enforced, including; dogs always on leash, no alcohol, no smoking, and no grills/cooking. The park will close at the end of the movie presentation.

Fall Program Registration ContinuesThe Leisure Services Department announces its fall activity opportunities for 2025 featuring a diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events for adults and children. A digital version of the program guide is available, as well.Online registration is underway at www.accgov.com/myrecRegistration will continue until activities are at full enrollment or they begin.Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec. Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card. Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office at least five business days prior to registering for a program. Scholarships must be applied for in person. Scholarships must be applied for and approved prior to payment for activities. Payments cannot be retroactively reimbursed. East Campus Connector Bridge Temporarily Closed for RepairsThe Leisure Services Department announces the temporary closure of the East Campus Connector Bridge starting Monday, August 11. The work is expected to take 6-8 weeks to complete this needed maintenance.
The Greenway will still be open from Oak/Oconee Street to the North Oconee River and along the river north to south.
The East Campus Connector Bridge is a 235-foot bridge spanning the Oconee River and connects the Greenway Trail System and the University of Georgia campus.

Poetry for the PeopleJoin Athens Poet Laureate, Mikhayla Robinson Smith, along with special guests, for an evening of poetry in the park. This free program takes place Saturday, August 23 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Dudley Park This family friendly event is inspired by the work of American poet, educator and activist, June Jordan.

"Orisa! Orisha! Orixa! at Lyndon House Arts CenterJourney into the mystical and magical world of ancient West African mythology and meet the Orishas! These colorful and unique characters are all connected with nature and specific aspects of our daily human existence. Through this exhibition, everyone will be introduced to a few of the most popular and well-known Orishas as they come to life through vivid illustrations and symbolism conceived by Havana, Cuba born artist Victor Mora. These deities are found in several belief systems practiced around the planet including Africa, the Caribbean, and the Americas.
Please join curator and author Christopher Swain for book readings of "O is for Orisha" on Saturday, August 9th at noon and 1:00 p.m. at the Lyndon House. This event is held in conjunction with Family Day Art Workshops, where participants can make art inspired by Victor Mora’s illustrations. The event is free of charge and open to all ages. Advance registration is encouraged but not required.
All exhibitions at Lyndon House Arts Center are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Therapeutic Activities Planned for the FallLeisure Services offers Therapeutic activities for individuals ages 18 and older. The programs are accessible to all individuals with disabilities. In addition, adaptive programs are available to provide a modified experience for recreational success.
These programs are specifically designed for populations with disabilities and are intended to assist participants in an adapted environment, which may be modified in terms of progression, skills breakdown, techniques, or equipment.

Start Counting!Participants will count how many different species of insects visit a particular flower in 15 minutes. Nature Center staff will share resources to make your home more pollinator friendly and have a few activity stations.
This program is for all ages and takes place Saturday, August 23 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
