"Movies by Moonlight" and "Touch a Truck" Event at Bishop ParkThe Leisure Services Department will host a free “Movies by Moonlight” outdoor movie event on Friday, May 16 at 8:45 p.m. at Bishop Park.
The event features the 2023 film “Paw Patrol” and will be presented on the Sunset Field.
The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with “Touch a Truck.” This area includes a variety of vehicles to explore representing the ACCGov Fire, Sheriff, Solid Waste, and Police Departments. The Athens-Clarke County Library staff will lead a craft activity and story time.
Registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will sit on the ground to watch the film on the large inflatable screen. Food and beverages will not be sold or provided at the park. Restrooms and water fountains will be available until the end of the screening.
All park rules will be enforced, including; dogs always on leash, no alcohol, no smoking, and no grills/cooking.

"Journey through the Stars: Star Light, Star Bright" at Sandy Creek Nature CenterDon't miss the next planetarium program in the Sky Center at Sandy Creek Nature Center. Attendees will journey through the sky, exploring the great beyond. This program is for ages five and older. Children younger than 13 must be accompanied by a registered adult. Anyone younger than five years of age will not be admitted into the program. Children must be able to sit in the dark through the program portion. Pre-registration is required.
This program is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center. The fee is $5 for ACC residents and $8 non-residents. Online registration is underway.

New Bishop Park Pool to Open May 23The Leisure Services Department will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony and open the newly reconstructed Bishop Park pool. This special occasion is scheduled for Friday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. Pool admission will be free all day. The first 100 guests will receive a beach towel and a one-day pool pass to be used during the summer at any of the department’s five pools or two splash pads.
The pool is constructed with a zero entry kids zone with spray features. The area can still accommodate lap swim, swim lessons, competitions, as well as the casual swimming.
The bathrooms and changing rooms are updated and also made ADA compliant. Additionally, the pump house for pool equipment was replaced. New pool furniture includes umbrellas, lounge chairs, shade structures, and bench seating for swim meets. This project is part of a SPLOST 2020 Project 19.

"Fish On!" at Sandy Creek ParkJoin Middle Oconee Parks staff as you learn how to make a traditional cane pole, spot different kinds of fish, and practice catch-and-release fishing, all while staying nice and dry. "Fish On!" is an exciting game! In this game you’ll use magnets instead of hooks, colorful paper fish instead of the real ones, and play on dry land instead of in the water. It’s a perfect way to discover the joys of fishing without getting messy!
This program is for ages 5 - 11 years and is scheduled for Saturday, May 17 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. at Sandy Creek Park.
There is a $2 per person fee to get into Sandy Creek Park. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Online registration is underway.

Good Grades = Free Pool PassesThe Report Cards Rewards program celebrates ACC students with good grades.In order to be eligible, any student, Kindergarten through 12th grade, who resides in Athens-Clarke County must take a copy of his/her final report card of the year or equivalent to the park office where a swimming pool is located. A report card with all A's or all 4's guarantees a free summer pool pass. "Friday Night Paddle" at Sandy Creek ParkSet sail into the sunset and discover the magic of Lake Chapman after dark! Bring your own boat or use one of our single or tandem kayaks for a peaceful evening on the water. This program is for ages 12 and older. They are scheduled for Friday, May 16 from 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Park. Choose from: This activity is heavily weather dependent. Suggested items to bring: Insect repellent, water bottle and a headlamp. Online registration is underway.

On Stage at the Morton TheatreElvis has been gone for 47 years, yet his music is timeless and remains. Patrons will experience the 1950s when Elvis burst onto the music scene changing the face of music as we knew it, his triumphant return to the stage in 1968, the glitz & glamour of Vegas in 1970 where Elvis performed over 800 consecutive SOLD OUT shows, finally to the iconic Aloha from Hawaii special.
This special performance is scheduled for Friday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Morton Theatre. Tickets are available for purchase online with a ticket price range of $40 - $70 each.

Memorial Day Holiday HoursThe Leisure Services Department parks will operate under regular hours of operation on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. Sandy Creek Park will be open. Facilities will be closed. All pools and the Howard Park Splash Pad will be open on Memorial Day from 1:00 – 5:30 p.m. Walker Park Splash Pad will be open 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. There is a $1 admission fee to all pools and splash pads.

Learn to Swim this SummerThe Leisure Services Department offers small group swim lessons for children. All lessons are taught by certified lifeguards.
Opportunities include Kinderswim, a free learn to swim program for five year olds who live in Athens-Clarke County, as well as:
Swim School for ages three and older. Parent and Tot Swim School for ages six months to three years old The fee is $33 for ACC residents and $50 for non-residents for Swim School and Parent and Tot Swim School. Online registration is underway.
