New Art along

the Firefly Trail

There is new public artwork on the Firefly Trail adjacent to the Old Winterville Road trailhead, “Georgia Railroad Lantern,” by artists Jim Benedict and Lily Kuonen.
The design is inspired by the railroad rails and structural steel that connects to the history and story of this scenic Georgia rail trail system.
Benedict and Kuonen’s design was chosen in a blind selection by a community panel, and funded by the ACC SPLOST (TSPLOST 2018 Project 06). The artist team were one of 28 applicants that submitted during the nationwide search in January 2023. The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission approved the design in March 2023.

On Display

at the Lyndon House...

The Lyndon House Arts Center announces Distillations, composed of drawings on paper and wall-bound constructions, bringing together the work of life-partners Johntimothy Pizzuto and Patti Roberts-Pizzuto, on view through March 15, 2025.

Johntimothy Pizzuto and Patti Roberts-Pizzuto, recent retirees from South Dakota have made a new home together in Athens.  Compatriots in art as much as anything else, the two share a restrained palette and lightness of touch. Both artists contrast elegant, atmospheric fields of marks alongside crisp manufactured edges, using the formal implications of depth and flatness to explore ideas of memory and temporality.

All exhibitions at Lyndon House Arts Center are free of charge and open to the public.  Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
